Brainstorming...
For several months, we've been getting private messages from people who have reached out to us with questions like “is there a way to learn more about how you use Notion?” or “how are you publishing and presenting so much? I want to learn how to do that too!”

The more questions we got like this, the more our wheels began turning. We began to consider how we could share our proven methods and system with other academic administrators, faculty, and graduate students who were interested in learning how to: (1) Connect their goals with their academic projects, (2) Streamline planning (and tracking) of projects and tasks,
(3) Use Notion as a central hub for all of this.

We decided the best way to do this was to offer something more than the typical 100% asynchronous (go at your own pace) types of programs that are out there on other topics. Those programs often provide limited, if any, individualized support. Because we know that we needed more support when we started using Notion, so we are committed to providing that support to you too.

Our Invitation to You...

So here's what we're doing: In February 2021, we are officially launching the Notion for Academics Academy (start date of early March 2021). Our current ideas, while nearing completion, are still rough around the edges. They are definitely not perfect (yet), and there are many things we still need to work out. However, our vision is there. So here's why we'd love to extend an early invitation to you.

We'd love for you to be part of this...especially if you are willing to help us shape the future of Notion for Academics Academy.

What does this mean?

If you are willing to join us as a founding member and you're willing to contribute ideas on how we can make this THE best online program to support academic administrators and faculty with their goals with Notion, we're willing to extend a very favorable "founding member" price. When this program officially launches in February 2021, we anticipate the starting price to be somewhere in the neighborhood of $500 (which will be a no brainer given that we'll be guiding students step-by-step through the process of designing their professional and personal productivity systems in Notion with weekly live support).

Here's the best part though...

Join us today as a founding member and your price is $249. You will receive lifetime updates to the course moving forward. So as we incorporate your valuable ideas into the Notion for Academics Academy moving forward, you will receive all updates added to the course AND you'll continue to have access to the Notion for Academics Academy Community where you can collaborate with both of us and all the members of the Founding Members Cohort, and cohorts to come.

Interested?
We'd love for you to join us!

CURRICULUM

Monica D.T. Rysavy (Ph.D., Ed.D.) & Russell Michalak (MLIS) are offering a convenient, self-paced course with weekly office hours and an online community for collaboration for current and aspiring higher education administrators and faculty.

In the Notion for Academics Academy, you'll learn how to effectively organize and plan your academic goals, projects, tasks, and resources using Monica & Russell's proven workflows and systems within the project management app,  Notion.

Module 1:

Module 2:
Goals

WK OF JAN. 11, 2021

Our system is based on goals we set for ourselves - both related to our scholarship (research, publications, and presentations) and administrative goals. In this module, we walk you through defining the most important goals for yourself and demonstrate how to create a database to connect your goals to future areas of your Notion for Academics system.

Module 3:
Daily Agenda

WK OF JAN. 18, 2021

Keeping track of the work you want to accomplish on a daily basis (both with goals as well as project-oriented tasks) is critical to making progress in all areas of your life. In this module, you'll create your Daily Agenda database and connect it to your Goals database.

Module 4:
Weekly Planner

WK OF JAN. 25, 2021

In this module, you'll learn how to create a Weekly Planner that combines all the information you are keeping track of within your Daily Agenda entries and offers you  a "big picture" view of your weeks and provides you with an opportunity for consistent reflection by conducting a "Weekly Review".

Module 5:
Projects & Tasks

WK OF Feb 1, 2021

This is the module where the work truly happens. We'll guide you through defining current and future projects and set up systems to connect your Projects to related tasks, which also connect to your Goals, Daily Agenda entries, and Weekly Planner.

This module teaches you how to establish a capture workflow and suggests options for capturing different types of content (both digital & physical) into your Notion system.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

All course content is accessible through the Notion for Academics Academy website which is located within the Zenler learning management system platform (LMS).

The Founders Launch cohort begins on Monday, January 4, 2021. At that time you'll receive access to the 1st module (Overview) and to the program community website. A new module will be released once per week for a total of 8 weeks (including the Overview week).

While content is shared one module per week, beginning, Monday, January 4, 2021, and the weekly Office Hours live call is centered around the topics covered in that week's module, we will also offer time for Q&A on related topics during each call. There is also the online community (beginning January 4, 2021), where you'll have access to both Monica & Rusty and the other students to ask questions, bounce ideas off another, etc...

Look, we get it! Life happens, priorities change. We have both invested in courses and products over the years with the full intention of using them immediately and sometimes that didn't happen. (Though Monica diligently tracks her courses in Notion so she doesn't forget how to access them! 😂.) There's absolutely no penalty for not keeping up with the course schedule, or for not finishing. You have Lifetime Access to this course content, so you don't have to worry about it disappearing on you.

In short, no.

While we consider ourselves to be extremely proficient in Notion, we do not consider ourselves to be (nor do we market ourselves as) Notion Experts. There are several of those out there (we're personally huge fans of Marie Poulin and August Bradley).

What we are however, are academic administrators (we're both directors), and faculty (we both hold assistant faculty rank) with a combined nearly 40 years of experiences working in education (combination of higher ed-both of us; private industry - both of us; and K-12-Monica). We have extensive experiences publishing consistently (peer-reviewed journals, book chapters, 2 edited collections, and regularly publish a column for the Journal of Library Administration) and frequently present sessions and workshops at conferences and other events (most often the American Library Association, Charleston Library Conference, and the biannual meeting [conference] of the Association of College & Research Libraries).

We do all of that academic work while working fairly long hours most of the time as academic administrators (who don't have a job requirement to publish or present) and run a business together because we enjoy doing this work and it's important to us.

How do we find the time to be this productive? We run it all with Notion.

Also, no.

You will, however, walk away from this experience with a comprehensive understanding of how to use Notion as your professional (and if you choose, person) life management system.

You'll feel extremely comfortable capturing content (online & physical) with streamlined workflows so you can actually find what you need when you need it, you'll make progress on your goals by tracking tasks & milestones for individual projects, and you'll feel comfortable teaching others how to do the same (parts or all of the system) should you wish to do so. For example, you could teach your team of graduate students, staff members, or faculty working on a committee or research project how to be make progress on their tasks and goals with Notion.

We do all of this without any fancy complicated formulas (though occasionally will share some that we use when we've found them to be extremely useful). We don't spend a lot of time with formulas as we simply don't need them.

Yes. We back our program with a 100% satisfaction guarantee. Here’s how it works.

Participate in up to the first two modules (Module 1: Overview and Module 2: Goals). If you no longer feel that Notion for Academics Academy is right for you, send us an email (rysavy@hey.com) by the end of the day on Sunday, January 17, 2021, and receive a full and complete refund. Simple as that.
